The Seoul Metropolitan Government has released the name of the city’s new Mayor Lee Hwa Ryong, a move that the local media has hailed as a first for the Korean capital.
The announcement was made at the Seoul Municipal Government office, where the new Mayor was elected on Tuesday, with the announcement expected to be made to the media later today.
The newly-elected Mayor has been named by the Mayorial Council as Park Min-seok, according to the Yonhap news agency.
Park Min-Seok will be the first Korean mayor in Seoul since Park Chung Hee in 2000.
The new Mayor, who was appointed by the Park administration last month, will take over from Choi Cheol-woo, who stepped down in April.
Choi has been in power for three years.
