The city that’s always on top in a city-by-city ranking of the best cities to live in is, as always, New York.
The city of skyscrapers and fancy condos is the city of all the best neighborhoods.
But when you take a look at the average household income per capita, you’ll notice that, as with many other major cities, the average American household is spending a lot more than its fair share.
In fact, New Yorkers spend an average of $10,000 more per year on housing than their neighbors in most major U.S. cities, according to a report from real estate website Trulia.
And while we’re talking about housing costs, you can also see that the median income for New Yorkers is about $60,000 lower than it is in most other major metropolitan areas.
So if you’re in the market for a home, here are the top five cities that are the places to go in the Big Apple.1.

PhiladelphiaThe city that was built around an American tradition of building and maintaining large, iconic buildings, New Jersey is still a major city in the United States.

But in New York, ‘London-born’ refers only to New Yorkers who are born and raised in the city.
So the best city name for New York would be the ‘Big Apple.’2.
